Christmas Gingerbread Cookies Recipe

Gingerbread cookies are one of the best desserts to make with your family because of their tasty quality and fun shapes! Before long, your house will smell like nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger. Below is the recipe to get started!

Here is what you’ll need:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature

  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup molasses

  • 1 large egg

Instructions:

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside when you are finished mixing.

  2. In a larger mixing bowl, mix together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Then, add the egg and molasses and beat until well mixed.

  3. Slowly add the flour mixture to the larger bowl until a dough texture forms. Once you are satisfied with the texture, split the dough in half, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

  4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  5. Pour some flour on a surface and roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Next, use various cookie cutters to make your designs. Make sure to take your time and be careful, gingerbread dough is more fragile and will tear easily.

  6. Once you are happy with your creations, place the cookies on a baking sheet and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are golden brown. Don’t let the cookies get too crispy.

  7. Remove the cookies and let them cook for a few minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool off completely.

  8. Once the cookies are cool, you can lightly pour some cinnamon on top or icing and sprinkles if you’d like.

  9. Eat and enjoy your creation!

I hope you enjoy making these gingerbread cookies! If you’d like to create a more unique flavor, you can add orange zest or lemon. Have fun with your family and have a wonderful holiday season.
